At 18 weeks, Maria was told her son’s kidneys and lungs would not develop properly enough to live outside the womb. She shares the story of deciding to carry the baby to term, overcoming her fears and finding peace.
At the age of 35, Maria Furlough’s feeling insecure about what everyone else thinks is finally busted. All the worrying, the insecurity, in confidence, fear, and the tiny lies that once consumed her – those things are gone. And it feels good. Once upon a time she was a woman who sat fearful, crippled by insecurities and only tiptoeing into the call that God had upon her life. Then Gideon came, and God used that little baby to change her from the inside out.
Today Maria is a wife, a mother of five, the team lead of women’s ministry at Lake Forest Church in Huntersville, North Carolina, and author of the book Breaking the Fear Cycle. She has been writing and teaching Bible studies for 14 years and you can find her at www.mariafurlough.com.

Thanks for sharing. This might of been the best podcast yet..
Thanks for sharing. I went through a similar situation early in my mothering years and had 12 hours of life with our daughter in 1994. There were so few resources at the time and after we said goodbye to her I wished I had known to do more. But God has shown me through stories like yours that what we did all those years ago laid the foundation for how babies like these lived their short life. Gideon will always be a part of your family and his story will live on.
Dionne, I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter. Thank you for listening to Maria’s story <3
